Master of Data Science – Academic Taster Session

Hands-on with Python

We’re excited to invite you to take part in an interactive academic taster session designed exclusively for prospective students of the Master of Data Science (MDS) programme. This is a great opportunity to explore the kind of thinking and problem-solving involved in our course—and have some fun with Python programming in the process.

Try It Yourself: Python Programming Game

On Monday 19 May, we’re releasing access to a specially selected Python programming game hosted on CodeCombat. This beginner-friendly activity gives you a chance to experiment with coding in a game-based environment, learning the logic and structure of Python as you work through the challenges.

How to Join the Game

  1. Click the link: https://codecombat.com/home
  2. Click “Sign Up”
  3. Choose “I’m a Student”
  4. Enter the class code: HeavyRockHand
  5. Click “Continue”, then enter your details to register (registration is optional, but required to play the code combat game).
  6. Start playing by selecting “CS1 Level 1: Dungeons of Kithgard” and follow the on-screen instructions

You don’t need any prior programming experience to take part—just curiosity and a willingness to give it a go!
